Family Activities

PADRES hosts a variety of annual holiday celebrations and special events that benefit the entire family throughout the year. Those events offer patients and their family an opportunity to come together in celebration to enjoy a fun-filled day in an emotionally safe and joyous environment.

Clinic Art & Music Activities
PADRES sponsors bi-monthly, on-site art and music activities that benefit hospitalized children and their families. This program helps ensure that educational enrichment continues for the patient and his or her extended family, especially during those extended periods when children have been displaced from an academic environment as a result of compliance requirements with the treatment regimen.

Celebrity Visits & Sporting Events
Periodically, PADRES will host site visits from artists, entertainers and celebrities interested in bringing joy and good cheer to families whose children are currently undergoing treatment. Thanks to the generosity of various donors, PADRES families are frequently afforded opportunities to attend local sporting and other entertainment-related events (circus performances, professional soccer, baseball, hockey and basketball games).

Spring Celebration
Great food, music, arts and crafts are all part of the day’s festivities at PADRES’ annual Spring celebration. Children and families from Southern California are invited to participate in this special family activity. Transportation is provided to and from pediatric cancer centers for the event.

Campamento Familiar (Family Camp)
PADRES partners with Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times to send patients and their families to camp for the weekend. Offered twice per year, “Campamento” enables the entire family to escape the hospital environment, enjoy a beautiful mountain setting and take advantage of an opportunity to spend quality time with other Spanish-speaking children and families fighting the battle against cancer.

Patient & Sibling Art/Music Therapy Program
Children are not always comfortable utilizing verbal communication skills to express their inner-most fears and concerns. These art workshops expose patients and their siblings to a variety of activities that nourish artistic growth and build self-esteem. Sessions provide participants with an opportunity to meet other children and share their experiences of living with childhood cancer while learning about different forms of artistic expression and communication.

Annual Family Picnic & Carnival
PADRES’ largest family and media event, this activity is held in the summer as a “kick-off” for childhood cancer awareness month (September). More than 5,000 children, extended family members and community volunteers from throughout Southern California come together and share a joyous, fun-filled day of celebration. The day’s festivities incorporate food, musical entertainment, celebrity appearances, carnival games & rides, arts & crafts, and much more. Transportation is provided to and from pediatric cancer centers for this event.
