Our Volunteer Program
PADRES remains extremely grateful to those individuals who give freely of their time and energy on behalf of children with cancer and their families. It is in large part due to the assistance of community volunteers that PADRES achieves its mission of improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families. Individuals participate in many facets of our volunteer program which include: PADRES’ event Volunteer Work Force, as PADRES Alumni Family Members who serve as mentors to new families, and as PADRES Ambassadors, as in the case of PADRES national spokesperson EVA LONGORIA and our entire cadre of prominent celebrity and survivor advocates.
In 2011, PADRES volunteers accumulated more than 5,000 hours of community service for the benefit of PADRES’ children and families, equating to a projected fair market value of $125,000 in pro-bono, donated labor.
Internship and Mentorship Program
PADRES offers unique experiences for interns and volunteers interested in working in the non-profit sector and healthcare community. Valuable insight and training is gained through direct interaction with childhood cancer patients and their families, both in and out of the hospital setting. Opportunities are available in Patient & Family Programs, PADRES/UCLA Cross-Training Research, Marketing & Communications, and Fund Development. This nationwide program includes young professionals from various academic institutions including Harvard, Stanford, USC and UCLA.
Regional Volunteer Committees
PADRES’ volunteer committees are designed to drive the implementation and expansion of the organization’s goals and initiatives. These committees come together to work on PADRES specific projects such as Health Education Programs, Family Events and Activities, Marketing, Communications & Public Relations and Donor Referral and Cultivation. Committee Members represent various corporate sectors in PADRES service areas in California, Florida, New York, Nevada and Texas.
