For Lenny Sage, Vice President of Sage Auto Group, walking through Childrens Hospital Los Angeles’ Oncology unit was what he calls “a life changing event.”

As a father of three young children, Sage could sympathize with the anguished parents trying to comfort their children. What struck him as most painful, however, was the young patients whose parents could not be there.

“What had the most profound influence on me was the noticeable absence of some parents and realizing that not everyone has the financial resources to take time from work to be at the hospital for extended periods of time,” says Sage. “I knew then what a vital role PADRES plays in these families’ lives.”

By seeing the children on the Oncology unit laugh and chat with the PADRES staff, Sage says he realized that PADRES not only provides financial, educational and social support to those in need, but it is also “a surrogate family” to so many of the children battling cancer.

Sage Auto Group, which owns Universal City Nissan, has been a long-time supporter of PADRES. Their relationship began in 1997 with a promotion to donate a portion of auto sales on a particular day to PADRES. Their partnership has since grown to Universal City Nissan becoming a generous sponsor of many PADRES events. Sage has also become more personally and professionally involved with the organization, recently elected as Second Vice-President of its Board of Directors.

The auto dealership, which Sage’s father Morrie founded more than 30 years ago, has a long history of community involvement by supporting many local synagogues, churches and schools.

“PADRES is an exceptional organization that does extraordinary work for a segment of the population that for so long has been overlooked,” says Sage. “I would like to see them continue to grow, offer more services and have a larger voice in the community.”
