Padres Contra El Cáncer Receives The Lance Armstrong Foundation LivestrongTM Challenge Award

LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 21, 2006 - PADRES Contra El Cáncer (PADRES), a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families, today announced it has been chosen to receive the Lance Armstrong Foundation's (LAF) LIVESTRONGTM Challenge Award. The award, presented in each of the five LIVESTRONG Challenge locations, recognizes individuals and organizations that have made a significant impact on the world of cancer survivorship. As the Southern California recipient of the LIVESTRONG Challenge Award, PADRES will be recognized during the Post-Event Party on Sunday, June 25.

"We are honored by this award," said Teresa Samaniego, Board President of PADRES Contra El Cáncer. "To be recognized by the Lance Armstrong Foundation is truly a compliment because of their outstanding contributions to the cancer community. We are proud to call the LAF our partner and friend."

The LIVESTRONG Challenge is LAF's signature fundraising event comprised of a series of fundraising events in five cities across the country. Participants can walk, run or ride to raise funds in support of the LAF's mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.

"PADRES has a long history of improving the lives of children with cancer and their families in Southern California," said Mitch Stoller, LAF president and chief executive officer. "By offering the necessary educational and emotional opportunities that might otherwise be out of their reach, PADRES is really providing each family with a sense of hope. And, anyone who has ever been affected by cancer knows that hope, and another chance at life, is the most important thing."

Funds raised through the LIVESTRONG Challenge will enable the LAF to continue helping people in the host cities and across the nation with the physical, emotional and practical challenges of cancer. Since its inception in 1997, the LAF has invested nearly $6.3 million in research and community programs in California, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Oregon and Texas.
