In June 2011, PADRES and Chivas USA aligned forces in the battle against pediatric cancer.  This mission-driven relationship will support PADRES and include a fundraising and awareness campaign that will engage Chivas USA team members, the team’s own non-profit, Fundación Chivas de Corazon USA, as well as link elements from Chivas USA’s sister-team Club Deportivo Chivas de Guadalajara.

The relationship got its start earlier this year with Chivas USA’s participation at PADRES’ 4th Annual Stand for HOPE 5K Charity Run/Walk at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.  It has continued with Chivas USA’s Jimmy Conrad and Mariano Trujillo visit with children undergoing cancer treatment at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.  Later this year, and to create awareness around pediatric cancer awareness month, Chivas USA will host PADRES families at one of its unique HEART Soccer Camps, an event where hundreds of children coping with cancer will be treated to an afternoon of soccer, and other special surprises.

“No child or family should ever have to face the devastating illness of cancer alone and by supporting PADRES, our club looks forward to ensuring that these brave little ones are given more reasons to smile and hope for a cure.” said Nadia Gonzalez, Chivas USA Senior Manager of Community Affairs.

The marquee event for both organizations in 2011 will be Chivas USA’s 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for August 29th at the Industry Hills Golf Course, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting PADRES.  The event will include participation of special PADRES guests and supporters as well as the entire Chivas USA team and ChivaGirl squad.

Additionally, Chivas USA will designate part of the proceeds from ticket sales from a number of home matches to benefit PADRES, all of which will culminate with a unique title night scheduled for September 2011.
